On Monday, January 13, 2014, at its annual election board meeting, the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors elected Dr. Freda Hinsche Otto as LBT’s new Board Chair, Barbara Sullivan-George as Vice-Chair and Maricela de Rivera as Secretary-Treasurer.
Board Chair Dr. Freda Hinsche Otto has served on the Long Beach Transit Board for three years and is a Long Beach resident. She has a BA and MPA from California State University, Long Beach and received her PhD from the University of Southern California School of Public Policy and Administration. Currently, she works as a consultant to nonprofits and businesses and has served as Development Counsel to Rancho Los Alamitos during its recent major expansion. She was formerly the Assistant Vice Chancellor for University Advancement for the California State University system, served as Executive Vice President of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation, and worked in executive positions in Alumni Relations and Central Development at the University of Southern California. She presently chairs the board of St. Mary Towers Retirement Housing Association for low-income seniors. She was appointed by Supervisor Don Knabe to the L.A. County Citizens Economy and Efficiency Commission where she co-chaired a study on Civil Service Reform for L.A. County. Hinsche Otto is a board member of St. Mary Medical Center, and is a member and former president of Soroptimist International of Long Beach.
“Long Beach Transit is integral to the success and vitality of our city, especially as our youth become eco-conscious leaders and as our senior population continues to grow. I see Long Beach Transit as a key element of a healthy and sustainable city, and I’m proud to serve our community as the new Board Chair,” said Hinsche Otto.
Continuing on the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors are: Donald M. First, Victor Irwin and Dr. James P. Norman Jr. One director position remains vacant. Ex Officio members are City of Long Beach employees Dave Roseman and Mike Conway.
The Long Beach Transit Board of Directors meetings are held monthly at 12pm in the Long Beach City Council Chambers (333 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802).
